Florida First Lady Visits Chabad Hurricane Relief Center

First Lady of Florida Casey DeSantis visited the Hurricane Ian Relief Center at Chabad of Southwest Florida to see firsthand and participate in the relief operation.

The First Lady of Florida Casey DeSantis visited Chabad Lubavitch of Southwest Florida at the hurricane relief center this week.

The First Lady was welcomed by the Local Shliach Rabbi Yitzchok Minkowicz, Director of Chabad Lubavitch of Southwest Florida, Rabbi Peretz Meir Simcha Minkowicz, Assistant Rabbi at Chabad Lubavitch of Southwest Florida, as well Eran Hazan of Yedidim USA that was responsible for setting up the whole Food operation that is providing hot meals for the community. Also in attendance were Maor and Sigal Elbaz-Starinsky, Consul General of the Consulate General of Miami, Rabbi Yossi and Rivky Labkowski, Shluchim in Cape Coral Florida, as well as Hatzalah representatives.

First Lady DeSantis was given a tour of the Hurricane Relief Center and participated in the relief efforts by serving several children a delicious hot lunch.

Rabbi Yitzchok Minkowicz explained to the First Lady that if someone visits your home, it’s a Mitzvah to feed them, so he wanted the honor of serving her lunch. The First Lady said, “Well, if it’s a Mitzvah, sure!” Rabbi Minkowicz then served her lunch, which she enjoyed.

As the First Lady was leaving, Rabbi Yitzchok Minkowicz blessed her on behalf of the community with success in all her important work in the state of Florida, especially in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian. The First Lady remarked about the great and happy energy which is felt at the Chabad Relief Center. “I think we need to take the Rabbi with us on the tour to visit the other communities,” she quipped.
